Overview

Mallorca in brief

RCD Mallorca were founded in Palma on 5 March 1916 as Alfonso XIII Foot-Ball Club, adding "Real" to the name after royal recognition later that year. The club became CD Mallorca in 1931, when the Second Republic removed monarchical references, and Real Club Deportivo Mallorca in 1949-50. The nickname Los Bermellones comes from vermilion, the bright red of the club's shirts. Since 1999 the club have played at Son Moix, built for that year's Summer Universiade and named Estadi Mallorca Son Moix since 2022.

Mallorca's biggest successes came around the turn of the century. They won the Supercopa de Espana in 1998, reached the 1999 Cup Winners' Cup final, losing 2-1 to Lazio at Villa Park, and finished third in La Liga in 1998-99 and 2000-01. In 2003 they beat Recreativo de Huelva 3-0 in Elche to win the Copa del Rey. The club also have two Segunda Division titles, from 1959-60 and 1964-65, and were relegated from La Liga in 2026 after five seasons.
