Overview
Founded in 1907, FC Augsburg represent the historic Swabian city of Augsburg and carry forward the lineages of BC Augsburg and TSV Schwaben Augsburg following their 1969 merger. Known as the Fuggerstaedter after the merchant family closely associated with the city, they play in red, green and white. The WWK Arena, opened in 2009 on the southern edge of Augsburg, is the club's home ground.
Augsburg's senior honours are mainly regional: a Regionalliga Sued title in 1974, seven Bavarian championships and 13 Swabian Cups across the lineage recognised by the club. Promotion in 2011 brought a first season in the Bundesliga, while a DFB-Pokal semi-final in 2010 and a UEFA Europa League run in 2015-16 marked important national and continental milestones. Their teams have often been associated with compact organisation and energetic pressing.

The club's academy serves Augsburg and the wider Bavarian Swabia region, with the Ulrich Biesinger stand linking the modern stadium to an earlier local football generation. Augsburg's strongest regional rivalry is with TSV 1860 Munich, and their meetings are commonly treated as a Bavarian derby. Helmut Haller, the city's most celebrated footballer, and 1954 World Cup winner Biesinger are defining figures inherited through the club's historical roots.
