Overview

Lecce in brief

Lecce trace their history to Sporting Club Lecce, founded in 1908, while the present football identity took shape as Unione Sportiva Lecce in 1927. The club represent the Salento peninsula and are known as the Giallorossi for their yellow and red colours. Their home is the Stadio Ettore Giardiniero - Via del Mare, opened in 1966 on the eastern edge of the city.

Lecce's first major trophy sequence came in 1975-76, when they won their Serie C group, the Coppa Italia Serie C and the Anglo-Italian Semiprofessional Cup. The club first reached Serie A in 1985 and later won Serie B in 2010 and 2022. Across these promotions, Lecce became associated with resilient teams capable of developing young players and competing beyond the resources of a relatively small regional centre.
