Overview

Angers in brief

Founded in 1919 as Sporting Club du Credit de l'Ouest, Angers SCO represent the city and the wider Anjou region in western France. Known as Le SCO and also as Les Noirs et Blancs, they play in black and white. Their home ground was renamed the Stade Raymond Kopa in 2017, honouring the Ballon d'Or winner whose professional career began with Angers.

Angers won the Championnat de France Amateur in 1943 before becoming a professional club after the Second World War. Their strongest top-flight era came in the late 1960s and early 1970s, bringing a third-place league finish and UEFA Cup football. The club reached the Coupe de France final in 1957 and 2017, but have not won a major national professional trophy.
