Overview

PSV Eindhoven in brief

Founded in 1913 as a sports association for Philips employees, PSV are closely tied to the industrial identity of Eindhoven. The club's red-and-white colours and southern roots underpin the nickname Boeren, meaning Farmers. PSV have played on the same site since their foundation, with the Philips Stadion developing around the original ground and remaining one of the most recognisable football venues in the Netherlands.

PSV have won 27 Dutch championships, 11 KNVB Cups, the 1988 European Cup and the 1978 UEFA Cup. Guus Hiddink's 1987-88 side completed a treble through defensive control, physical strength and decisive counter-attacking, defeating Benfica on penalties in the European final. Across later eras, PSV became associated with direct attacking football and a strong record of developing or refining forwards for elite European competition.
