Overview

Sandefjord in brief

Sandefjord Fotball, usually known simply as Sandefjord, are the professional football club of the coastal town of Sandefjord in Vestfold. The club was founded on 10 September 1998 by two local clubs, Sandefjord Ballklubb and IL Runar, and took Sandefjord BK's place in the 2. divisjon in 1999. The team play in blue, and the badge carries a white whale tail recalling the town's whaling history. The nicknames are Hvalfangerne (The Whalers) and Guttane (The Boys). Since July 2007 home games have been played at the Jotun Arena, formerly Komplett Arena, after earlier seasons at Storstadion.

Sandefjord have not yet won a major trophy. They won the 2. divisjon at the first attempt in 1999 and the 1. divisjon in 2014, and were also promoted as runners-up in 2005, 2008, 2016 and 2019. In their first top-flight season, 2006, they reached the Norwegian Football Cup final, losing 3-0 to Fredrikstad at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo. For many years the club moved between the top two divisions, but they have played in Eliteserien every season since 2020, and they finished fifth in 2025.
