Overview

Korona Kielce in brief

Korona Kielce are a professional football club from Kielce, in the Swietokrzyskie (Holy Cross) region of south-central Poland. The club was formed on 10 July 1973 by the merger of two local sides, SHL and Iskra, and took the name Korona, meaning crown, after the stylised crown at the centre of the city's coat of arms. The team play in yellow and red and are nicknamed Zlocisto-Krwisci (the Golden-Blooded) and Scyzory (the Buck-Knives). Since 2006 their home has been the municipal stadium on Sciegiennego Street, officially Arena Kielce and known since September 2024 as the Exbud Arena under a sponsorship deal.

Korona have not won a major trophy. They spent their first three decades in the second and third tiers before winning the second-tier title in 2004-05, which brought a first promotion to the Ekstraklasa. In 2007 they reached the Polish Cup final, and their best league finish is fifth, achieved in 2005-06, 2011-12 and 2016-17. The club were relegated in 2008 for involvement in match-fixing during the 2003-04 season, returned to the top flight in 2009, went down again in 2020 and came back in 2022 by beating Chrobry Glogow 3-2 after extra time in the promotion play-off final. They have not yet played in European competition.
