Overview
Viktoria Plzeň in brief
Viktoria Plzen was founded in Plzen in 1911, when Jaroslav Ausobsky, an official of the state railways, registered SK Viktoria with the authorities. The team played its first match in August 1911, losing 7-3 to Olympia Plzen, in red shirts and blue shorts, still the club's colours. After 1949 it played as Sokol Skoda Plzen, Spartak LZ Plzen and, from 1965, Skoda Plzen, before going back to the Viktoria name in 1993. Since 1955 its home has been the stadium in Struncovy sady, rebuilt in 2011-12 and known since 2012 as Doosan Arena.
Viktoria turned professional in 1929 and first reached the Czechoslovak top flight for 1931-32. It played Juventus in the 1935 Mitropa Cup, then spent decades moving between the top two divisions. Its first major trophy of the Czech era was the 2009-10 Czech Cup. Under coach Pavel Vrba it won its first league title in 2010-11, one point ahead of Sparta Prague, and further titles followed in 2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2021-22. Plzen has played in four Champions League group stages and reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League in 2023-24.

Daniel Kolar, David Limbersky and Milan Petrzela were also key players of the first title era. Pavel Vrba coached the club to its first two league titles before leaving to manage the Czech national team in 2014.
