Overview

Galatasaray in brief

Founded in 1905 by students at Galatasaray High School, Galatasaray are one of Turkey's most successful and widely supported clubs. Based on Istanbul's European side, the red-and-yellow team are commonly known as Cimbom. Their home is Rams Park within the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex, a ground whose steep stands continue the intense matchday tradition associated with the club's earlier Ali Sami Yen Stadium.

Galatasaray have won 26 Super Lig titles and 19 Turkish Cups. Their defining international season came in 2000, when Fatih Terim's side won the UEFA Cup without losing a match and then defeated Real Madrid for the UEFA Super Cup. That team combined tactical resilience with technical midfield play and established Galatasaray as the first Turkish club to win a major UEFA competition.
