Overview

Cadiz in brief

Cadiz CF were founded in 1910 in the city of Cadiz and play in yellow shirts and blue shorts. Their best-known nickname, Submarino Amarillo (the Yellow Submarine), dates from the 1980s and early 1990s, when the club kept sinking to the second tier, resurfacing in the top flight and then escaping relegation late in the season. Home is the stadium opened in 1955 as the Ramon de Carranza, renamed Nuevo Mirandilla in 2021 and called JP Financial Estadio under a sponsorship deal since March 2026.

Cadiz have spent 16 seasons in La Liga, the first in 1977-78. Their only Segunda Division title came in 2004-05 under coach Victor Esparrago, and they were crowned overall Segunda Division B champions in 2008-09. The club's best top-flight finish is 12th, reached in 1987-88 and matched in 2020-21, and they reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals in 1989-90. Promotion in 2020 began a four-year La Liga stay that ended with relegation in May 2024.
