Overview

Moreirense in brief

Founded in 1938, Moreirense are the football club of Moreira de Conegos, a parish within the municipality of Guimaraes in northern Portugal. They play in green and white, often in a distinctive checked shirt, and are known as the Conegos. Home matches are played at the Estadio Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, which opened in 2002 and holds about 6,150 spectators.

Moreirense's defining honour is the 2017 Taca da Liga, won by beating Braga in the final for the club's first major national trophy. They have also won the second tier three times, in 2001-02, 2013-14 and 2022-23, and the third tier twice, in 1994-95 and 2000-01. Back-to-back titles in 2001 and 2002 carried the club into the top flight for the first time under coach Manuel Machado. Their highest league finish is sixth, first reached under Ivo Vieira in 2018-19 and matched in 2023-24.
