Overview

Santa Clara in brief

Founded in 1921, Santa Clara are the football club of Ponta Delgada on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. They are the only Azorean club to have played in the Primeira Liga, making them the westernmost club to have played in a European top flight. The team play in red and white, are known as Os Acorianos, the Azoreans, and host matches at the Estadio de Sao Miguel, which holds about 12,500.

Santa Clara's senior honours are two second-tier titles, won in 2000-01 and 2023-24, and the 1997-98 third-tier Segunda Divisao B. The club first reached the top flight in 1999 and, after relegation in 2003, spent around 15 years in the second tier before returning in 2018. They are also the only Azorean side to compete in UEFA competition, from the 2002 Intertoto Cup to Conference League campaigns, and in 2024-25 they finished fifth with a club-record 57 points.
