Overview

Alverca in brief

FC Alverca were founded on 1 September 1939, the day the Second World War began in Europe, in Alverca do Ribatejo, a town in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira north of Lisbon. The club's colours are blue and red, worn as a blue shirt with a red central stripe, and home matches are played at the Complexo Desportivo FC Alverca.

After decades in regional and lower national football, Alverca reached the Primeira Liga in 1998 and spent five seasons there up to 2004, with a best finish of 11th in 1999-2000. For much of that period the club acted as a feeder club to Benfica. Financial trouble in the mid-2000s sent the senior team back to the Lisbon district leagues, from which it returned to national football in 2018 as district champions.
