Overview

Gent in brief

KAA Gent were founded on 31 October 1900 as the football section of La Gantoise, a Ghent multi-sports association whose gymnastics roots go back to 1864. The club hold matricule number 7, have played in blue and white since 1902 and took their Dutch name in 1972. Known as De Buffalo's, Gent moved in 2013 from the Jules Ottenstadion in Gentbrugge, their home since 1920, to the Planet Group Arena, previously known as the Ghelamco Arena.

Gent won their first Belgian league title in 2014-15, sealing it with a 2-0 home win over Standard Liege, and added the Belgian Super Cup that summer. The club have also won four Belgian Cups, in 1964, 1984, 2010 and 2022, along with four second-tier titles and one third-tier title. In Europe they reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 1991-92, the Champions League last 16 in 2015-16 and the Conference League quarter-finals in 2022-23.
