Overview

Fredrikstad in brief

Fredrikstad Fotballklubb, usually known as FFK or simply Fredrikstad, are a football club from the town of Fredrikstad in Ostfold, south-east Norway. Founded on 7 April 1903, the club concentrated on football alone from the start and is sometimes described as the first true football club in Norway. Since 1927 the team have worn white shirts and red shorts, colours adopted from the Polish national team, which explains the nickname Rodbuksene (the Red Shorts); they are also known as Aristokratene (the Aristocrats). Since 2007 they have played at Fredrikstad Stadion, built in the former Vaerste shipyard across the Glomma from the old ground of the same name.

Fredrikstad have won nine Norwegian league titles, the first in the inaugural nationwide league of 1937-38 and the last in 1961, and 12 Norwegian Football Cups between 1932 and 2024, the most recent in their first season back in Eliteserien. As 1960 champions they became the first Norwegian club to enter the European Cup, beating Ajax 4-3 on aggregate before losing to AGF. Relegation in 1984 began 19 years outside the top flight, including a decade in the third tier. The club won the First Division in 2023, and in 2025-26 reached the Europa League third qualifying round and the Conference League play-off, losing 1-0 on aggregate to Crystal Palace.
