Empoli

Empoli were formed in August 1920 when Football Club Empoli merged with the football section of Unione Sportiva Empolese, and have used the name Empoli Football Club since 1944. Their blue first shirt gives them the nickname Gli Azzurri. Home is the Stadio Carlo Castellani, named after the striker who is the club's third-highest scorer with 61 goals in 145 games; since 2023 it has also carried the sponsor name Computer Gross Arena.

Empoli reached Serie A for the first time in 1986 and beat Internazionale 1-0 on their top-flight debut. They have won Serie B three times, in 2004-05, 2017-18 and 2020-21, and the Coppa Italia Serie C in 1995-96. Seventh place in 2006-07, their best Serie A finish, led to a UEFA Cup run that ended in the first round against Zurich. In 2024-25 they reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals but were relegated after four years in Serie A.
