Overview

Lommel United in brief

Lommel SK are the football club of Lommel, a city in the Kempen area of Belgian Limburg. The club in its current form was created in 2003, when neighbouring Overpelt-Fabriek merged with Lommel after the bankruptcy of KFC Lommel SK, and it has since played as KVSK United, Lommel United and, from 2017, Lommel SK. Home matches are played at the Soevereinstadion, an 8,000-capacity ground also known locally as De Gestelsedijk.

The club's roots lie in Overpelt, where Vlug en Vrij Overpelt, re-established in 1937, later took the name Overpelt-Fabriek from the district around the local zinc works. Overpelt-Fabriek won their third-division series in 1982 and spent several seasons in the second tier. After the merger, the new club won the third division unbeaten in 2004-05, going all 30 matches without defeat, and then finished second in the second tier four times between 2006 and 2015.
