Overview

Pogon Szczecin in brief

Pogon Szczecin are the main football club of Szczecin, the port city in north-west Poland. The club was founded on 21 April 1948 as KS Sztorm and, after several mergers and changes of name, became Pogon in the autumn of 1955. The name and the navy blue and maroon colours come from Pogon Lwow, the club followed by many of the founders, Poles resettled from Lwow (now Lviv) after the Second World War. The crowned griffin on the crest is taken from Szczecin's coat of arms. Nicknamed Portowcy (the Dockers) and Duma Pomorza (Pride of Pomerania), Pogon play at the 21,163-capacity Stadion Miejski im. Floriana Krygiera.

Pogon have never won a major trophy. Their best league finishes are second place in 1987, behind Gornik Zabrze, and again in 2001, and they have lost five Polish Cup finals: 0-1 to Legia Warsaw in 1981, 0-1 to Lech Poznan in 1982, 0-1 to Jagiellonia Bialystok in 2010 while playing in the second tier, to Wisla Krakow in 2024 and 4-3 to Legia in 2025. In Europe they reached the UEFA Cup first round in 1984-85 and 1987-88 and the Conference League third qualifying round in 2023-24. After near-bankruptcy in 2002 and a turbulent period under owner Antoni Ptak, the club was rebuilt from the fourth tier in 2007 and returned to the Ekstraklasa in 2012.
