Amin Nabizada put the hosts ahead in the 19th minute, giving Watford the lead they had pushed for early on. West Ham drew level just eight minutes later when Matthew Pollock turned the ball into his own net, and the score stood at 1-1 from that point through to half-time and beyond.
Despite having far less of the ball, West Ham finished with the greater share of possession at 62 per cent and won more corners, yet it was Watford who created the more clear-cut openings, registering five shots on target to their opponents' one across the afternoon.
Neither side could find a winner in the second half, and the match ended level with both goalkeepers and defences holding firm to preserve the point apiece.
Nabizada scored the opening goal and was rated the outstanding performer on the pitch with an 8.16 mark, driving Watford's early dominance.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Watford 10%, the draw 22%, West Ham 68%. It finished Watford 1–1 West Ham.
West Ham's rating gap outweighs Watford's home ground — West Ham are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade plus a weak Championship home advantage on top give West Ham a clear lead. The draw at 22% is helped by a draw-heavy league.
Why West Ham at 68%?
West Ham sit 437 points higher on our strength rating — 1358 to 1794. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.9% of 5,217 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Watford's column. Across 10,761 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018. Championship home sides under-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to draws (26.9% vs 24.9% norm). Championship homes won 43.0% of 8,380 games vs 44.9% across all 99,457 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. The 300 most similar past games finished 13–19–68.
Why only 68%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 68% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 22% and Watford at 10%.
Why is the draw only 22%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 18.8%. These teams' recent games average 3.0 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,900. Championship runs draw-heavy, adding 2.0 points. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Watford have shed 82 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,671 such games vs 34.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. West Ham won all of the last 5 games between these sides. Head-to-head dominance hasn't carried forward beyond the rating: sides that won 4+ of the last 5 meetings won 55.6% of 9,240 next meetings vs 55.0% class-expected.
