Bellingham brace sends England past Mexico in Round of 16 thriller
England beat Mexico 3-2 at Estadio Banorte to reach the World Cup quarter-finals, surviving a red card and a fierce late Mexican rally in a Round of 16 tie that swung repeatedly after half-time.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Jude Bellingham struck twice in three second-half minutes before the break, the first assisted by Bukayo Saka in the 36th minute and the second teed up by Harry Kane two minutes later, putting England 2-0 ahead. Mexico responded immediately through J. Quinones in the 42nd minute to make it 1-2 at the interval.
Jarell Quansah was sent off for England in the 54th minute, leaving Thomas Tuchel's side to play out the remainder a man light. Kane converted a penalty in the 60th minute to restore the two-goal cushion at 1-3, but Raúl Jiménez pulled one back from the spot in the 69th minute, setting up a nervy finish that Mexico, despite dominating territory, could not complete.
Bellingham scored both of England's opening goals inside a three-minute spell before the break and finished with a rating of 9.2, the highest of any player on the pitch.
Mexico had 66% of the possession and 18 shots to England's six, yet still finished on the losing side.
England won 3–2 away against Mexico (half-time 1–2).

🚨 England into the World Cup quarter-finals after a famous 3-2 win over Mexico at the Azteca. Jude Bellingham’s brace and Harry Kane’s penalty set up a last eight tie with Norway. Pulsating game that saw also Jarell Quansah sent off. England so resilient in the last 20 minutes.🏴
Incredible game. Some effort from England after the red card. Heroic backs to the wall effort. To beat Mexico in the Azteca in that atmosphere - arguably England’s most impressive World Cup victory for 60 years.
