Match report
Veloso's stoppage-time strike rescues Moreirense point against Braga
Moreirense and Braga shared the points in a 2-2 draw on the opening weekend of the Primeira Liga, with the home side snatching a dramatic equaliser at the Parque Joaquim de Almeida Freitas deep into stoppage time. The result left both clubs level on a single point after their first outings of the season.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The visitors made the perfect start, Fran Navarro converting after seven minutes from a Vitor Carvalho assist, only for Nile John to level almost immediately, finishing an Alexandre Duville-Parsemain pass a minute later to make it 1-1. That score held until half-time despite Braga's dominance of the ball.
Pau Victor restored Braga's lead in the 66th minute, turning home a chance teed up by Ege Tıknaz, and for long stretches it appeared enough to secure the visitors the win given their control of possession and chances. But Moreirense kept pressing and João Veloso struck in the first minute of added time to complete the comeback and secure a 2-2 finish.
Braga dominated territory and chances throughout, and Jose Bessa oversaw a match in which Moreirense's discipline came under greater scrutiny, picking up four yellow cards to the visitors' one.
Navarro opened the scoring inside seven minutes and finished with a rating of 7.7, the joint-highest mark alongside Veloso, whose late intervention proved decisive for the hosts.
Braga's 0.94 expected goals figure against Moreirense's 0.21 underlined how much more clear-cut the visitors' chances were over the course of the match.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Moreirense 16%, the draw 29%, SC Braga 55%. It finished Moreirense 2–2 SC Braga.
SC Braga's rating gap, but the draw is in play — SC Braga are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives SC Braga a clear lead. The draw at 29% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why SC Braga at 55%?
SC Braga sit 306 points higher on our strength rating — 1575 to 1881. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.8% of 5,165 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Moreirense's column. Across 10,529 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.1 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 20–27–53.
Why only 55%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 55% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 29% and Moreirense at 16%.
Why is the draw second, ahead of the Moreirense win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 25.3%. These teams' recent games average 2.5 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,529. Early-season fixtures add 2.1 points to the draw. The goals environment adds 1.3 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
SC Braga average 10 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 306 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. SC Braga won all of the last 5 games between these sides. Head-to-head dominance hasn't carried forward beyond the rating: sides that won 4+ of the last 5 meetings won 55.6% of 9,184 next meetings vs 55.1% class-expected.
