Plzen struck first when Prince Adu converted from Cheick Souaré's assist in the 8th minute, but Crvena Zvezda responded almost immediately as Mirko Ivanić levelled just three minutes later to make it 1-1. The match turned decisively after the break when Osman Bukari was sent off for the away side in the 54th minute, leaving Crvena Zvezda a man short for the remainder of the contest.
Plzen capitalised on their numerical advantage in ruthless fashion. Denis Višinský converted a penalty in the 58th minute to restore the hosts' lead at 2-1, and Patrik Hrošovský added a third five minutes later, assisted by Lukáš Červ, to make it 3-1. Christophe Kabongo added a second penalty for Plzen in the 90th minute to make it 4-1 at the end of normal time, sending the tie into extra time.
In the additional period, Krčík struck in the 96th minute, teed up by Kabongo, to complete the rout at 5-1. Kabongo played a telling role in the closing stages, converting a penalty in the 90th minute before teeing up Krčík for the decisive extra-time goal.
