AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The contest remained goalless at half-time, with Millwall holding firm despite being second-best territorially. Newcastle finally broke through in the 81st minute when Joseph Willock finished off a Lewis Hall assist to make it 0-1, a lead they did not relinquish as the game moved into its closing stages.
Newcastle dominated possession with 63 per cent of the ball and outshot their hosts 25 to 9, six of those efforts on target compared with Millwall's two. Millwall's Filip Marschall was kept busy as his side absorbed pressure, while two yellow cards for the hosts reflected the defensive strain they were under throughout.
Willock scored the decisive goal in the 81st minute and was rated the top performer on the pitch with an 8.2, while provider Lewis Hall also impressed with an 8.16 rating for his assist.
Newcastle's dominance was underlined by a 63 per cent share of possession against Millwall's 37 per cent.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Millwall 8%, the draw 8%, Newcastle 84%. It finished Millwall 0–1 Newcastle.
Newcastle's rating gap outweighs Millwall's home ground — Newcastle are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and a cup tie across divisions on top makes it one-sided for Newcastle. The draw at 8% is cut by the cup-tie effect.
Why Newcastle at 84%?
Newcastle sit 335 points higher on our strength rating — 1564 to 1899. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.9% of 5,238 such games. A cup tie across divisions: Newcastle carry a 335-point rating edge over Millwall, who play their league football in a division below. Ratings compress across divisions — a favorite like this is usually better than its number. Higher-division cup favorites won 77.2% of 1,313 such ties where the class table expected 59.7% — positive in every recent season, and it passed our walked forward test before earning points. The 300 most similar past games finished 16–18–66.
Why not higher?
No scored evidence points the other way. 84% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 8% and Millwall at 8%.
Why is the draw only 8%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 18.0%. These teams' recent games average 2.8 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 25,021. Cup ties across divisions take 9.5 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Millwall are missing 2 regular starters — Casper De Norre, Joshua Coburn — about 31% of their usual starting-XI weight. A body count alone told us nothing.
