Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Shakhtar Donetsk 53%, the draw 26%, AEK Athens 21%. It finished Shakhtar Donetsk 3–1 AEK Athens.
A slight rating edge to Shakhtar Donetsk, little else — Shakhtar Donetsk are a shade stronger on our strength rating, and their control of the ball on top gives Shakhtar Donetsk the lean. The draw at 26% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Shakhtar Donetsk at 53%?
Shakhtar Donetsk sit 65 points higher on our strength rating — 1645 to 1580. Sides with a 40–80-point rating edge at home won 50.3% of 10,389 such games. Shakhtar Donetsk hold 8 more possession points (58 to 50 in recent games) across a 65-point rating gap. Control now carries a receipt beyond near-equals too: sides with this control edge at a 60–120-point rating gap won 42.7% of 8,632 such games where the class table expected 40.6%.
Why only 53%?
Shakhtar Donetsk scored +0.47 goals per game beyond chance-quality — home sides this hot gave some of it back. Opponents of hot-finishing home sides won 28.6% of 1,479 games, vs 27.7% against normal finishing.
Why the draw at 26%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 26.8%. These teams' recent games average 2.8 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.8% of 25,172.
What did we measure but not count?
AEK Athens FC have gained 80 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: climbing sides won 39.9% of 11,190 such games vs 40.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar.
