Austin edge Seattle Sounders despite late fightback
Austin came away from Lumen Field with a 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders in a Major League Soccer Regular Season - 20 fixture that stayed goalless until the second half burst into life. The result kept Schmetzer's side without a win in their last five outings, while Davy Arnaud's Austin ended a run that had included two defeats in their previous five.

The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when Facundo Torres converted an assist from Žan Kolmanič to put Austin ahead. They doubled their advantage in the 87th minute through Guilherme Biro, teed up by Brandon Vázquez, appearing to have the contest settled. Seattle Sounders pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Stuart Hawkins scored from an Albert Rusnák assist in the 90th minute, but there was no time left to find an equaliser.
Seattle Sounders held the greater share of possession at 55 percent and created more shots on target, six to Austin's seven, yet it was the visitors who finished with the higher expected goals figure of 1.25 against 1.07. Austin also had the greater volume of attempts overall, firing 18 shots to the hosts' 11, underlining how their finishing made the difference despite Seattle's control of the ball.
Torres opened the scoring in the 66th minute and finished with a rating of 7.9, one of three Austin players to post the joint-highest mark alongside Guilherme Biro and Damian Las.
Despite having 55 percent of the ball, Seattle Sounders could not convert their territorial edge into a winning scoreline against a more clinical Austin side.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Seattle Sounders 64%, the draw 24%, Austin 12%. It finished Seattle Sounders 1–2 Austin.
Seattle Sounders' rating edge carries it — Seattle Sounders are the stronger side on our strength rating, and Major League Soccer home advantage plus their cold finishing due to recover on top give Seattle Sounders a clear lead. The draw at 24% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Seattle Sounders at 64%?
Seattle Sounders sit 110 points higher on our strength rating — 1582 to 1472. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge at home won 57.1% of 12,710 such games. Major League Soccer home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (25.7% vs 30.2%). Major League Soccer homes won 49.5% of 5,086 games vs 44.9% across all 99,137 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. Seattle Sounders sit -0.67 goals per game below chance-quality — cold streaks like this have bounced back. Finishing swings carry a receipt at this rating gap too: sides finishing this cold won 38.8% of 2,358 such games where the class table expected 36.3%. The 300 most similar past games finished 57–28–15.
Why only 64%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 64% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 24% and Austin at 12%.
Why the draw at 24%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 24.2%. These teams' recent games average 2.8 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,814.
What did we measure but not count?
Seattle Sounders have shed 178 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,623 such games vs 34.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar.
