Profile
Pedri is a Spanish midfielder who gives team-mates a route through crowded areas. He finds room behind opposing midfielders, keeps the ball under pressure and connects play with forward passes. His positioning and touch help turn possession into an opportunity to attack.
Born in Tegueste, Tenerife, on 25 November 2002, he played locally before moving through Juventud Laguna to Las Palmas in 2018. His senior breakthrough came in the second division in 2019/20. Barcelona agreed his transfer in September 2019, but he stayed at Las Palmas for that season and joined Barcelona in August 2020.
He quickly became a regular: his 52 Barcelona appearances in 2020/21 were the most by any player at the club that season, and he helped win the Copa del Rey. The 2021 Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy recognised that emergence.
His first LaLiga title followed in 2022/23. In 2024/25 he helped Barcelona win the league, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup, showing how the teenage breakthrough had become a sustained role in a successful midfield. Another league title followed in 2025/26.
His international rise was equally rapid. At EURO 2020, played in 2021, he missed only one minute of Spain’s run to the semi-finals and was named Young Player of the Tournament. He completed 65 of 66 passes in the semi-final against Italy.
He then formed part of Spain’s EURO 2024 winning squad. At the 2026 World Cup, he came off the bench in the final as Spain beat Argentina 1–0 after extra time, adding a world title to his European medal.
A pass against Paris Saint-Germain in April 2024 captures his ability to change an attack with very few touches. Introduced from the bench, he controlled a pass from İlkay Gündoğan and, with his next touch, lifted the ball over the defence for Raphinha to volley home. Keeping the move quick allowed the runner’s timing and the passer’s accuracy to work together.
Pedri currently plays for Barcelona as a central midfielder. He has represented Spain internationally.
