Overview

1. FC Nürnberg in brief

1. FC Nurnberg were founded on 4 May 1900 by a group of 18 young men in Nuremberg. Known simply as Der Club since their early years, they traditionally play in dark red and black. Since 1963 their home has been the city stadium that opened in 1928, later called the Frankenstadion and, under sponsorship deals, the easyCredit-Stadion and Grundig Stadion. It has carried the name Max-Morlock-Stadion, after the club's famous forward, since the 2017-18 season, a change long demanded by the fans.

Nurnberg have been German champions nine times, five of them between 1920 and 1927, and were the record champions until 1987. Their ninth title in 1967-68 was followed by relegation the next season. They have won four DFB-Pokals, the last in 2007 with a 3-2 extra-time win over VfB Stuttgart. The club hold the record of nine Bundesliga relegations and have won the 2. Bundesliga four times, most recently in 2003-04.
