Overview

Carrarese in brief

Carrarese were founded in Carrara in 1908 as Societa Polisportiva Carrarese and first wore grey and green. The light blue and yellow colours were adopted in 1920, and the club are known as Gli Azzurri as well as the Apuani. Since 1955 they have played at the Stadio dei Marmi, whose full name, Stadio dei Marmi - IV Olimpionici Azzurri, honours four Carrara-born members of Italy's gold-winning team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Carrarese's first two Serie B seasons were 1946-47 and 1947-48. Corrado Orrico, who had several spells as coach, led the sides that won Serie D in 1978 and Serie C2 in 1982 and 1988, and in 1982-83 the club won the Coppa Italia Serie C, beating Fano in the final. After the old company went bankrupt in 2016, Carrarese Calcio 1908 took over its sporting title. On 9 June 2024 a 1-0 play-off final win over Vicenza ended a 76-year absence from Serie B.
