Overview

San Diego in brief

San Diego FC were founded on 18 May 2023, when Major League Soccer awarded the city an expansion team, and began play in 2025 as the league's 30th club. The owners are British-Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and the Mansour Group's Right to Dream academy shares the club's training base on the Sycuan Reservation. The colours are chrome and azul. Home is Snapdragon Stadium, a 35,000-seat ground at San Diego State University's Mission Valley site that opened in 2022.

The first season set a high bar. San Diego won their opening match 2-0 away to the reigning champions LA Galaxy on 23 February 2025, with both goals from Danish winger Anders Dreyer, and finished top of the Western Conference with 19 wins and 63 points, a league record for an expansion club. They went on to reach the Western Conference final, where they lost 3-1 at home to Vancouver Whitecaps on 29 November 2025.
