Overview

Oviedo in brief

Real Oviedo were formed on 26 March 1926 through the merger of Real Stadium Club Ovetense and Real Club Deportivo Oviedo, with Carlos Tartiere as the first president. The club play in blue and white and are known as Los Azules. Their old ground, Buenavista, opened in 1932 and was renamed Carlos Tartiere in 1958. The present Estadio Carlos Tartiere, with room for 30,500 spectators, replaced it in September 2000.

Oviedo have won Segunda Division five times, most recently in 1974-75, and their best La Liga finish is third, reached in 1934-35, 1935-36 and 1962-63. In the 1930s Isidro Langara won three consecutive Pichichi trophies as part of a forward line known as the Delantera Electrica. Relegation in 2001 was followed by financial collapse and a fall to the fourth tier in 2003. The club climbed back, returning to La Liga in 2025 after 24 years, but were relegated again in 2026.
