Overview

FC St. Pauli in brief

FC St. Pauli grew out of the football section of the Hamburg-St. Pauli Turnverein 1862, which began playing in 1907, and count 15 May 1910 as their founding date; the footballers went their own way in 1924. The club plays in brown and white at the Millerntor-Stadion near the Reeperbahn, completed in 1963, called the Wilhelm-Koch-Stadion from 1970 until 1999 and redeveloped between 2006 and 2015. Their players are often called the Kiezkicker.

St. Pauli have twice won the second tier, in 1976-77 as champions of the 2. Bundesliga Nord and in 2023-24 under Fabian Hurzeler. Those titles were two of six promotions to the Bundesliga, with top-flight spells in 1977-78, 1988-1991, 1995-1997, 2001-02, 2010-11 and 2024-2026. A 2-1 home win over Bayern Munich in 2001-02, weeks after Bayern had won the Weltpokal, the world club title, inspired the Weltpokalsiegerbesieger T-shirts. The club finished bottom of the Bundesliga and were relegated in May 2026.
