Overview

Pisa in brief

Pisa were founded in April 1909 as Pisa Sporting Club. Their first colours were white and red; the club later switched to black and blue in honour of Inter, hence the nickname I Nerazzurri. Financial collapses led to new companies in 1994 and 2009, and the original Pisa Sporting Club name returned in 2021. Home is the Arena Garibaldi, co-named after president Romeo Anconetani in 2001 and known commercially as the Cetilar Arena since July 2024.

Coach Jozsef Ging took Pisa to the 1921 national final, lost 2-1 to Pro Vercelli. Under Anconetani the club climbed from Serie C to Serie A, winning Serie B in 1984-85 and again in 1986-87, a title shared with Pescara on equal points. Pisa won the Mitropa Cup in 1986 under Vincenzo Guerini and in 1988 under Giuseppe Materazzi. Promotion in 2025 under Filippo Inzaghi ended a 34-year absence from Serie A, but Pisa were relegated again in 2026.
