Match report
Raphinha and Fermín inspire Barcelona to five-goal rout of Elche
Barcelona thrashed Elche 5-0 in La Liga's second round, a result that lifted Hansi Flick's side to fourth place while leaving Martin Anselmi's Elche without a win after two matches. The visitors were ruthless from the outset and never allowed the home side back into the contest.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Raphinha opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute, and Barcelona doubled their lead deep into first-half stoppage time when Karim-David Adeyemi converted a Raphinha assist to make it 2-0 at the break. The second half brought no respite for Elche as Raphinha struck again in the 67th minute, assisted by Anthony Gordon, before Fermín added a fourth just four minutes later, also teed up by Gordon.
Fermín completed the rout in the 79th minute, turning home a pass from X. Espart to make it 5-0. Barcelona's dominance was reflected across the pitch, with Elche managing just two shots on target from eleven attempts despite having more of the ball, while Barcelona's efficiency in front of goal proved decisive throughout.
Raphinha scored twice, including a first-half penalty, and set up Adeyemi's goal to earn a rating of 9.9, the outstanding contributor in Barcelona's win.
Barcelona's 4.13 expected goals figure against Elche's 0.72 underlined the gulf in clear-cut chances created over the ninety minutes.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Elche 17%, the draw 22%, Barcelona 61%. It finished Elche 0–5 Barcelona.
Barcelona's rating gap outweighs Elche's home ground — Barcelona are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives Barcelona a clear lead. The draw at 22% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Barcelona at 61%?
Barcelona sit 404 points higher on our strength rating — 1758 to 2162. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.8% of 5,198 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Elche's column. Across 10,693 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.1 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 18–19–63.
Why only 61%?
La Liga home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (28.3% vs 30.2%). La Liga homes won 46.6% of 6,091 games vs 44.9% across all 99,290 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why is the draw only 22%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 19.0%. These teams' recent games average 2.5 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,635. Early-season fixtures add 2.1 points to the draw. The goals environment adds 1.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Barcelona average 13 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 404 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Barcelona won all of the last 5 games between these sides. Head-to-head dominance hasn't carried forward beyond the rating: sides that won 4+ of the last 5 meetings won 55.6% of 9,220 next meetings vs 55.0% class-expected.
