Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Guingamp 32%, the draw 36%, Nantes 32%. It finished Guingamp 3–3 Nantes.
Home ground cancels Nantes' rating edge — Nantes are the stronger side on our strength rating, but home ground plus Guingamp's control of the ball leave Guingamp and Nantes level. The draw at 36% is the likeliest single result, lifted by a low-scoring environment.
Why are Guingamp and Nantes level?
Home ground, against the rating. Nantes sit 88 points higher on our strength rating — 1466 to 1554. Sides with a 50–100-point rating edge on the road won 32.9% of 10,549 such games. Guingamp hold 15 more possession points (61 to 46 in recent games) across a 88-point rating gap. Control now carries a receipt beyond near-equals too: sides with this control edge at a 75–150-point rating gap won 42.6% of 8,634 such games where the class table expected 41.3%.
Why only 32% each?
Because Nantes are the stronger side on our strength rating. Nantes sit -0.62 goals per game below chance-quality — cold streaks like this have bounced back. Visitors this cold went on to win 32.5% of 1,326 games, vs 28.9% for visitors finishing normally. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Guingamp's column. Across 10,761 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why is the draw the likeliest result?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 28.3%. These teams' recent games average 2.1 goals — a low-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 28.2% of 18,143. The goals environment adds 3.7 points to the draw. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Guingamp have shed 88 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,671 such games vs 34.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Last 6 between them: Guingamp 1 win, 1 draw, Nantes 4 wins. Most recently Guingamp 0–0 Nantes, 7 years ago. Fixture history hasn't carried forward once class is level: past leaders won just 28.1% of 5593 such games — no measurable edge, 0 points.
