Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Annecy 40%, the draw 30%, Metz 30%. It finished Annecy 1–1 Metz.
Level sides, home ground holds off Metz's control of the ball — Nothing separates them on our strength rating, and Annecy's 40% is home ground and little else. The draw at 30% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Annecy in front?
Home ground, and little else. Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 1587 to 1539. Sides this close won 45.6% of 14,507 home games (draw 26.5%, visitors 27.9%).
Why only 40%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Metz hold 7 more possession points (50 to 43 in recent games) — and between equals, control has been worth something. Between evenly-matched sides, when the visitors held this control edge the home team's win rate fell to 40.2% across 5,551 games, from 44.0% when styles were level. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Annecy's column. Across 10,761 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why is the draw second, level with the Metz win?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 26.5%. These teams' recent games average 2.9 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,900. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw. The control factor adds 1.4 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Last 4 between them: Annecy 0 wins, 2 draws, Metz 2 wins. Most recently Metz 5–1 Annecy, 1 year ago. Fixture history hasn't carried forward once class is level: past leaders won just 28.1% of 5593 such games — no measurable edge, 0 points. Annecy on 4 days' rest, Metz on 7. Once class is accounted for, rest gaps stopped mattering — across 43,531 measured games no rest advantage repeated.
