Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Laval 46%, the draw 28%, Clermont Foot 26%. It finished Laval 3–3 Clermont Foot.
Laval's control of the ball gives them the edge — With almost nothing between the sides on our strength rating (1407 to 1409, Clermont Foot fractionally ahead), Laval's home advantage and their control of the ball, 56% possession to 48 in recent games, give us 46% for Laval. The draw sits at 28%, up from the usual 27% between sides this level because both teams' own recent games average a typical 2.5 goals, trimmed slightly by Laval's control.
Why Laval in front?
Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 1407 to 1409. Sides this close won 42.6% of 14,823 home games (draw 27.1%, visitors 30.3%). Laval hold 8 more possession points (56 to 48 in recent games) — and between equals, control has been worth something. Between evenly-matched sides, home teams with this control edge won 48.2% of 5,146 games, vs 44.0% when styles were level.
Why only 46%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Level sides split the rest: the draw at 28% and Clermont Foot at 26%.
Why is the draw second, ahead of the Clermont Foot win?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 27.1%. These teams' recent games average 2.5 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.5% of 28,336. The goals environment adds 1.2 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Clermont Foot won 2 of the last 6 meetings with Laval. The record is 2 wins for Clermont Foot, 4 draws and 0 wins for Laval. These were 6 Ligue 2 games played between 30 September 2016 and 3 January 2026. Latest meeting: 3 January 2026 — Clermont Foot 4–1 Laval. In 5,652 historical matches between similarly rated teams, visiting sides with the stronger head-to-head record won 28.1%.
