Eintracht Braunschweig led Hertha BSC 2-0 inside 33 minutes at the Eintracht-Stadion in this 2. Bundesliga round three fixture, but the visitors fought back to win 5-3 in a chaotic afternoon. Y. AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Hertha responded before the interval through Jón Þorsteinsson, who pulled one back on 43 minutes from a Josip Brekalo assist, and Brekalo himself levelled deep into stoppage time to make it 2-2 at the break. The second half turned decisively in the away side's favour when Ehlers turned into his own net on 53 minutes to hand Hertha a 3-2 lead they never relinquished.
Brekalo converted a penalty on 69 minutes to extend the lead to 4-2, and Oluwaseun Adewumi, teed up by Jan-Luca Schuler, made it 5-2 in the 87th minute. Jan Urbich's late strike a minute later merely reduced the arrears, as Hertha held on to secure a 5-3 win and climb to the top of the table with nine points from three games.
Jón Þorsteinsson scored once and earned a rating of 9.2, the highest of any player on the pitch, capping a decisive attacking display from Hertha.
Hertha registered 3.47 expected goals to Braunschweig's 2.17, reflecting how much of the away side's threat translated into clear-cut chances despite finishing with less possession.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Eintracht Braunschweig 31%, the draw 29%, Hertha BSC 40%. It finished Eintracht Braunschweig 3–5 Hertha BSC.
Hertha BSC's rating edge outweighs Eintracht Braunschweig's home ground — Hertha BSC are the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives Hertha BSC the lean. The draw at 29% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Hertha BSC at 40%?
Hertha BSC sit 154 points higher on our strength rating — 1445 to 1599. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge on the road won 40.1% of 13,105 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Eintracht Braunschweig's column. Across 10,741 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.1 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 30–27–43.
Why only 40%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 40% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 29% and Eintracht Braunschweig at 31%.
Why the draw at 29%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 27.2%. These teams' recent games average 2.8 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,891. Early-season fixtures add 2.1 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Last 6 between them: Eintracht Braunschweig 0 wins, 2 draws, Hertha BSC 4 wins. Most recently Eintracht Braunschweig 1–1 Hertha BSC, 4 months ago. Fixture history hasn't carried forward once class is level: past leaders won just 28.0% of 5592 such games — no measurable edge, 0 points.
