Vasco da Gama thrash Coritiba 5-0 in Brasileirão rout
Vasco da Gama produced a dominant display at São Januário to beat Coritiba 5-0 in matchday 28 of the Brasileirão Série A, a result that lifts the home side while leaving Coritiba to reflect on a heavy away defeat.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The hosts led at the break through Facundo Colidio, who converted in the 24th minute with an assist from Andrés Gómez, before Bruno Duarte doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, also teed up by Gómez, to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Coritiba could find no response after the interval as Vasco poured forward. Alan Lescano converted a penalty in the 56th minute for 3-0, Gómez himself got on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute with Alan Saldivia providing the assist, and Ramon Rique completed the scoring in the 73rd minute after being set up by Marino Hinestroza, sealing a 5-0 final margin.
Vasco's control was total across the ninety minutes, finishing with 65 percent possession and 32 shots to Coritiba's 4, a gulf reflected in 11 shots on target against just one for the visitors.
Lescano scored from the penalty spot and finished with a match-high rating of 8.84, while Gómez contributed a goal and two assists in a display that shaped much of Vasco's attacking play.
Vasco's 32 shots to Coritiba's 4 underlined just how one-sided the contest was in front of goal.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Vasco DA Gama 54%, the draw 29%, Coritiba 17%. It finished Vasco DA Gama 5–0 Coritiba.
Vasco DA Gama's rating edge, but the draw is in play — Vasco DA Gama are a shade stronger on our strength rating, and Brasileirão Série A home advantage plus Coritiba's hot finishing due to cool on top give Vasco DA Gama the lean. The draw at 29% is helped by a draw-heavy league.
Why Vasco DA Gama at 54%?
Vasco DA Gama sit 86 points higher on our strength rating — 1652 to 1566. Sides with a 50–100-point rating edge at home won 50.4% of 10,474 such games. Brasileirão Série A home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to draws (27.0% vs 24.9% norm) and away wins (24.9% vs 30.2%). Brasileirão Série A homes won 48.2% of 4,446 games vs 44.9% across all 100,303 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. Coritiba scored +0.65 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Visitors running this hot went on to win 28.8% of 1,505 games, vs 29.2% for visitors finishing normally.
Why only 54%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 54% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 29% and Coritiba at 17%.
Why is the draw second, ahead of the Coritiba win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 26.5%. These teams' recent games average 2.6 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,851. Brasileirão Série A runs draw-heavy, adding 2.1 points. The goals environment adds 1.5 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Vasco DA Gama sit -0.74 goals per game under chance-quality. For home sides we could not receipt a bounce-back — the measured cells sit inside each other's noise bands — so this is noted and scores 0. Vasco DA Gama are missing 2 regular starters — Tchê Tchê, Adson — about 20% of their usual starting-XI weight. Our measured receipt covers one-sided absences only, and the picture here isn't one-sided — both squads are short. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
