Overview

Bolton in brief

Founded in 1874 as Christ Church FC and renamed in 1877, Bolton Wanderers represent the town of Bolton in Greater Manchester and were one of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888. Known as the Trotters and playing in white shirts, the club left Burnden Park after more than a century in 1997 for the stadium in Horwich now called the Toughsheet Community Stadium, which opened as the Reebok Stadium.

Bolton have won the FA Cup four times, in 1923, 1926, 1929 and 1958, as well as the 1958 Charity Shield, three second-tier titles and the 1972-73 Third Division. Their 1923 win over West Ham United was the first FA Cup final played at Wembley, remembered as the White Horse final. The club also reached League Cup finals in 1995 and 2004, and played in the UEFA Cup twice during eleven consecutive Premier League seasons from 2001.
