Atletico-MG

Atletico Mineiro were founded in Belo Horizonte on 25 March 1908 by 22 students as Athletico Mineiro Foot Ball Club, and early on opened their doors to players of every social class. They play in black and white stripes and are known as Galo, the rooster, which is also the club's mascot. After decades at the Mineirao, opened in 1965, and spells at the Independencia, they moved in 2023 to their own stadium, Arena MRV, which staged its first official match on 27 August that year.

The CBF credits Atletico with three Brasileirao titles: 1971, 2021 and the 1937 tournament of state champions, which it recognised as a national title in August 2023. Under coach Cuca they won the 2013 Copa Libertadores on penalties against Olimpia at the Mineirao, and the 2021 league and Copa do Brasil double. Other honours include the 2014 Copa do Brasil, the Copa Conmebol in 1992 and 1997, the 2014 Recopa and the 2022 Supercopa. They were beaten finalists in the 2024 Libertadores and the 2025 Sudamericana.
