Overview

FC Dallas in brief

FC Dallas were founded on 6 June 1995 as the Dallas Burn, one of the original MLS clubs, named for the burning Texas oilfields and the state's hot weather, and began play in 1996. Owner Lamar Hunt renamed the club for 2005, when it left the Cotton Bowl for a soccer-specific stadium in Frisco, north of Dallas, which opened as Pizza Hut Park and has been Toyota Stadium since 2013. The red and white hoops and the bull on the crest date from that rebrand; the stadium also houses the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Dallas won the U.S. Open Cup in 1997, beating MLS champions D.C. United, and again in 2016, 4-2 against New England Revolution, ending a 19-year wait for a trophy. Oscar Pareja's 2016 team also won the Supporters' Shield. The club reached MLS Cup in 2010, when David Ferreira was league MVP and Schellas Hyndman coach of the year, but lost 2-1 after extra time to Colorado Rapids in Toronto. Jason Kreis, the 1999 MVP, was the first MLS player to reach 15 goals and 15 assists in a season.
