SC Freiburg in brief
Founded in 1904, SC Freiburg represent Freiburg im Breisgau and the wider south-western region of Baden. They are known as the Breisgau-Brasilianer, a nickname associated with the expressive football of their 1990s rise, and play in red and white. The club moved from the Dreisamstadion to the Europa-Park Stadion in 2021, retaining a close connection between the team, the city and the surrounding Black Forest region.
Freiburg have won the 2. Bundesliga four times, while their first team lifted the South Baden Cup in 1975 and 1978. Volker Finke's sixteen-year tenure transformed the club, bringing a first Bundesliga promotion in 1993 and a third-place finish two years later through technical, adventurous football. Christian Streich extended the development-led model and guided Freiburg to their first DFB-Pokal final in 2022.
