Overview

Guimaraes in brief

Founded in 1922, Vitoria de Guimaraes, officially Vitoria Sport Clube, are the leading football club of the historic northern city of Guimaraes. They play in white and black and are known as Os Conquistadores, the Conquerors. Home matches are played at the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques, which opened in 1965 and was renovated and expanded for Euro 2004 to hold about 30,000 spectators.

Vitoria are one of the few Portuguese clubs to have won all three major domestic cup competitions: one Taca de Portugal, one Taca da Liga and one Supertaca Candido de Oliveira. The Supertaca came in 1988, and after losing several cup finals the club finally lifted the Taca de Portugal in 2013 by beating Benfica 2-1. A first Taca da Liga followed in January 2026 with a 2-1 win over Braga in Leiria. In Europe, their deepest run was to the quarter-finals of the 1986-87 UEFA Cup.
