Ramsey's late leveller salvages point for Newcastle against Bournemouth
Newcastle and Bournemouth shared a 2-2 draw in a Premier League matchday 3 fixture at St. James' Park, with the home side twice fighting back from two goals down. Jacob Ramsey's stoppage-time finish rescued a point for Matthias Jaissle's team after Bournemouth had looked set to leave with all three.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Marcus Tavernier put the visitors ahead after nine minutes, and Malick Thiaw turned into his own net on 35 minutes to double Bournemouth's advantage. Newcastle responded almost immediately through Harvey Barnes, whose goal from a Lewis Hall assist two minutes later halved the deficit and sent the sides in level at half-time on the balance of chances, 1-2.
Bournemouth held firm for long stretches after the interval, but Ramsey struck in the 88th minute to complete the comeback and secure a share of the spoils. Newcastle dominated possession at 57 percent yet managed only eight shots, while Bournemouth were far more direct with 17 attempts and five on target, reflecting the visitors' greater threat despite yielding territory.
Tavernier scored the opening goal and was rated the outstanding performer on the pitch at 8.2, with Ramsey's late equaliser and Barnes' earlier strike also drawing high marks for Newcastle.
Despite seeing just 43 percent of possession, Bournemouth more than doubled Newcastle's shot count, firing 17 attempts to the hosts' eight.
Newcastle and Bournemouth drew 2–2 (half-time 1–2).

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Newcastle 37%, the draw 30%, Bournemouth 33%. It finished Newcastle 2–2 Bournemouth.
Home ground outweighs Bournemouth's rating edge — Bournemouth are the stronger side on our strength rating, but home ground gives Newcastle the lean. The draw at 30% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Newcastle at 37%?
Home ground, against the rating. Bournemouth sit 56 points higher on our strength rating — 1899 to 1955. Sides with a 50–100-point rating edge on the road won 33.0% of 10,581 such games.
Why only 37%?
Because Bournemouth are the stronger side on our strength rating. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Newcastle's column. Across 10,911 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why the draw at 30%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 28.3%. These teams' recent games average 2.9 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,965. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Newcastle have shed 67 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,701 such games vs 34.6% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Bournemouth have gained 75 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: climbing sides won 41.4% of 12,294 such games vs 40.7% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
