Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Hull City 14%, the draw 27%, Everton 59%. It finished Hull City 2–2 Everton.
Everton's rating gap, but the draw is in play — Everton are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives Everton a clear lead. The draw at 27% is lifted by a low-scoring environment.
Why Everton at 59%?
Everton sit 256 points higher on our strength rating — 1508 to 1763. Sides with a more than 240-point rating edge on the road won 65.7% of 5,863 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Hull City's column. Across 11,278 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.7%, with draws up 1.4 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 17–24–59.
Why only 59%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 59% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 27% and Hull City at 14%.
Why is the draw second, ahead of the Hull City win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 22.9%. These teams' recent games average 1.9 goals — a low-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 28.2% of 18,733. The goals environment adds 2.6 points to the draw. Early-season fixtures add 1.4 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Everton have averaged 12 percentage points more possession than Hull City in recent games. That doesn’t change our forecast here. Hull City have gained 97 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: climbing sides won 39.9% of 11,181 such games vs 40.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
