Match report
Feyenoord hit NEC with three goals in 12 second-half minutes
Feyenoord came from behind after the break to beat NEC Nijmegen 3-1 in an Eredivisie matchday 5 fixture at Stadion de Goffert, a result that lifted them to second in the table while NEC remained ninth. The match was goalless at half-time despite NEC's early promise on the ball.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The contest exploded into life after the interval. Gjivai Zechiël put Feyenoord ahead in the 52nd minute, assisted by Nacho Ferri, only for Darko Nejašmić to level for NEC three minutes later. Feyenoord responded immediately, restoring their lead through Luciano Valente in the 61st minute before Jerayno Schaken added a third three minutes after that, both goals created by Zechiël.
NEC dominated general territory, holding 62 per cent of possession and edging the corner count, but Feyenoord were far more clinical, converting three of their six shots on target compared with NEC's two from twelve attempts. NEC also picked up more fouls and cards across the afternoon, reflecting a physical response to falling behind at home.
Zechiël scored once and set up both of Feyenoord's other goals, finishing with a rating of 9.35 to underline his influence on the win.
Feyenoord needed only six shots on target to score three times, well ahead of NEC's return from twelve attempts.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave NEC Nijmegen 31%, the draw 29%, Feyenoord 40%. It finished NEC Nijmegen 1–3 Feyenoord.
Feyenoord's rating edge outweighs NEC Nijmegen's home ground — Feyenoord are the stronger side on our strength rating, and their cold finishing due to recover plus the early-season home fade on top give Feyenoord the lean. The draw at 29% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Feyenoord at 40%?
Feyenoord sit 172 points higher on our strength rating — 1675 to 1847. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge on the road won 40.1% of 13,132 such games. Feyenoord sit -0.41 goals per game below chance-quality — cold streaks like this have bounced back. Finishing swings carry a receipt at this rating gap too: sides finishing this cold won 38.9% of 2,413 such games where the class table expected 36.3%. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims NEC Nijmegen's column. Across 10,911 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 29–25–46.
Why only 40%?
NEC Nijmegen sit -0.33 goals per game below chance-quality — cold streaks like this have bounced back. Finishing swings carry a receipt at this rating gap too: sides finishing this cold won 38.9% of 2,413 such games where the class table expected 36.3%.
Why the draw at 29%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 27.2%. These teams' recent games average 2.9 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 24,965. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Feyenoord have gained 92 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: climbing sides won 41.4% of 12,294 such games vs 40.7% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. NEC Nijmegen come into this after a busy window — 27 arrivals, 28 departures, and fewer of last season's regular starters still in the eleven. Squad turnover reads dramatic but hasn't moved results once the rating is controlled: the busiest windows landed within noise across 5,368 games, rebuilt elevens likewise across 5,446, and even losing the most regular starters showed nothing (5,336). The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
