Ten-man Annecy hold out to beat PAU on opening weekend
PAU opened their Ligue 2 season with a 1-0 home defeat to Annecy at the Nouste Camp, a result that leaves Thierry Debes's side without a point after matchday one. Laurent Guyot's Annecy took the lead early and then had to defend it for the vast majority of the match after falling to ten men before the half-hour mark.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Axel Drouhin put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute, finishing off an assist from Clément Billemaz. Annecy's task became far harder five minutes later when Billemaz himself was sent off, leaving the away side to protect a slender lead for well over an hour with a numerical disadvantage.
Despite the red card, Annecy saw out the game to make it 0-1 at both the interval and full time. PAU dominated territory, with 71 percent possession and 14 shots to Annecy's nine, but could not find a way past a side reduced to ten men, underlining how resilient Guyot's team were in defence.
Drouhin scored the only goal of the match and finished with a rating of 8.2, the highest of any player on the pitch.
PAU held 71 percent of possession yet still finished the match on the losing side against ten-man opponents.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave PAU 33%, the draw 28%, Annecy 39%. It finished PAU 0–1 Annecy.
Annecy's rating edge outweighs PAU's home ground — Annecy are the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives Annecy the lean. The draw at 28% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Annecy at 39%?
Annecy sit 138 points higher on our strength rating — 1433 to 1570. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge on the road won 40.2% of 13,019 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims PAU's column. Across 10,505 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 38–24–38.
Why only 39%?
PAU hold 8 more possession points (52 to 44 in recent games) across a 138-point rating gap. Control now carries a receipt beyond near-equals too: sides with this control edge at a 75–150-point rating gap won 42.6% of 8,562 such games where the class table expected 41.3%.
Why the draw at 28%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 27.2%. These teams' recent games average 3.2 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 16,858. The goals environment takes 2.3 points off the draw. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
