Kane double helps Bayern München overturn early scare at Osnabrück
Bayern München came from behind to beat VfL Osnabrück 4-1 in the DFB Pokal round of 64, overturning an early setback with four second-half and late goals to book their place in the next round.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Osnabrück made the perfect start when Robin Meißner put the hosts ahead after just five minutes, but Bayern responded quickly. Harry Kane levelled in the 18th minute and Tom Bischof put the visitors ahead six minutes later, meaning Bayern led 2-1 at the interval despite trailing early on.
The second half belonged almost entirely to the visitors. Michael Olise extended the lead in the 73rd minute before Kane completed his double from the penalty spot in the 86th, sealing a 4-1 win that reflected Bayern's dominance for long spells of the tie.
Olise scored once and was rated the top performer on the pitch with an 8.6 mark, while Kane's brace, including a late penalty, also earned him an 8.2 rating alongside goalscorer Bischof.
Bayern's control was evident in the possession split, with the visitors holding 67% of the ball to Osnabrück's 33%.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave VfL Osnabrück 4%, the draw 6%, Bayern München 90%. It finished VfL Osnabrück 1–4 Bayern München.
Bayern München's rating gap outweighs VfL Osnabrück's home ground — Bayern München are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and a cup tie across divisions on top makes it one-sided for Bayern München. The draw at 6% is cut by the cup-tie effect.
Why Bayern München at 90%?
Bayern München sit 970 points higher on our strength rating — 1325 to 2295. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.9% of 5,227 such games. A cup tie across divisions: Bayern München carry a 970-point rating edge over VfL Osnabrück, who play their league football in a division below. Ratings compress across divisions — a favorite like this is usually better than its number. Higher-division cup favorites won 77.2% of 1,310 such ties where the class table expected 59.7% — positive in every recent season, and it passed our walked forward test before earning points. The 300 most similar past games finished 10–10–80.
Why not higher?
No scored evidence points the other way. 90% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 6% and VfL Osnabrück at 4%.
Why is the draw only 6%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 12.0%. These teams' recent games average 3.8 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 17,062. Cup ties across divisions take 9.5 points off the draw. The goals environment takes 1.0 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Bayern München average 20 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 970 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Bayern München's last five: W-W-W-W-W — clearly the hotter side on recent results, and unbeaten in their last 7. Between equals, recent form told us almost nothing: the home side won 44.7% of 2200 games when clearly hotter and 42.8% of 4017 when clearly colder.
