Bayo brace turns it around as Udinese edge Venezia in Coppa Italia
Udinese came from behind to beat Venezia 2-1 in the Coppa Italia round of 32, staged at the Bluenergy Stadium - Stadio Friuli. The result continued the home side's strong recent form after a spell of five successive unbeaten league outings, while Venezia's inconsistent run continued despite an early lead.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Richie Sagrado put the visitors ahead after just nine minutes, giving Venezia a foothold that appeared to reward their bright start. Udinese responded before the interval, Vakoun Bayo levelling in the 34th minute with an assist from Mërgim Vojvoda, and the sides went in level at 1-1 at half-time.
The turning point arrived early in the second half when Bayo struck again in the 53rd minute, this time teed up by Keinan Davis, to put Udinese 2-1 ahead. Despite dominating territory for long spells, Venezia could not find a way back and Udinese held on for the win, despite having far less of the ball themselves.
Udinese finished the game with 35% possession but were far more clinical, striking eight times on target from 16 attempts, while also winning eight corners to Venezia's two. Venezia's Lorenzo Montipò was kept busy but could not prevent the damage done by Bayo's double.
Keinan Davis set up the winning goal and was rated the best performer on the pitch with a 7.7 mark, capping a productive display off the bench of contributions rather than goals himself.
Udinese managed just 35% of the possession yet still produced eight shots on target compared to Venezia's four, underlining their efficiency in front of goal.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Udinese 41%, the draw 28%, Venezia 31%. It finished Udinese 2–1 Venezia.
Level sides, home ground holds off Venezia's cold finishing due to recover — Nothing separates them on our strength rating, and Udinese's 41% is home ground and little else. The draw at 28% is up from the usual 26.5% between sides this level, as small adjustments add up.
Why Udinese in front?
Home ground, and little else. Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 1744 to 1711. Sides this close won 45.6% of 14,543 home games (draw 26.5%, visitors 27.9%).
Why only 41%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Venezia sit -0.32 goals per game below chance-quality — cold streaks like this have bounced back. Visitors this cold went on to win 32.5% of 1,340 games, vs 29.1% for visitors finishing normally.
Why the draw at 28%?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 26.5%. These teams' recent games average 2.6 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,723. The goals environment adds 1.4 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
A 17-point possession gap between near-equal sides is unusual. Gaps this extreme are too rare to receipt — around 366 measured games, under our 300-game floor — so it's noted at 0 points. Last 4 between them: Udinese 3 wins, 0 draws, Venezia 1 win. Most recently Udinese 3–2 Venezia, 2 years ago. Fixture history hasn't carried forward once class is level: past leaders won just 43.1% of 5070 such games — no measurable edge, 0 points.
