Overview

Austin in brief

Austin FC were founded in 2018 and played their first MLS season in 2021, the first team from a major professional league to play in the Texas capital. The club grew out of owner Anthony Precourt's 2017 plan to move the Columbus Crew to Austin; when an Ohio group bought the Crew to keep it in Columbus, Precourt was given a new expansion team instead. The crest, unveiled in August 2018, shows intertwined oaks in bright green ("verde") and black. Home is Q2 Stadium in north Austin, opened in June 2021.

Austin won the Copa Tejas, a supporters' trophy for league meetings between the three Texas MLS clubs, in 2022 and 2023. The 2022 season also brought the club's first playoff run: after knocking out Real Salt Lake on penalties and then FC Dallas, Austin reached the Western Conference final, where they lost 3-0 to LAFC. In 2025 they played their first major final, the U.S. Open Cup, but lost 2-1 to Nashville SC at Q2 Stadium on 1 October.
